Fields of Tension

by Hanieh Nasrabadi

"Fields of Tension explores the invisible forces that shape space. The title refers to the network of tension, structure, and light that transforms thread into an architectural experience. "

Fields of Tension is a site-specific string installation constructed from silk thread on a precisely engineered wooden framework. The work is developed through an extensive system of accurately measured anchor points and carefully controlled tension, allowing thousands of threads to create a highly ordered architectural surface. The installation transfers structural forces between the ceiling and the wall, where tension becomes the primary constructive element. Through disciplined repetition, geometric precision, and the interaction of natural light with densely layered thread, the work generates shifting depth, texture, and spatial perception. Rather than relying on solid mass, the installation allows light and tension to define volume, inviting viewers to experience space as an ever-changing composition. Rooted in architectural thinking, the work investigates the relationship between structure, balance, geometry, and perception.
